Raider Rally Falls Short
February 10, 2009 By Redd Rider of Good Hope High School
Good Hope Raiders rallied but it just wasn't quite enough and they fell to the Vinemont Eagle 47-44. The Raiders are the Area 12 Runners-Up and will travel to Elkmont Friday to play in the Sub-Regional game at 7:00 pm. It's win or go home from this point on.
Elkmont upset the #1 3A team in the state Madison Academy to win the Area 15 tournament and earned the right to host Good Hope.
Raider Sports Network plans to broadcast that game LIVE.
You can listen to the ARCHIVED BROADCAST by clicking on Broadcast Schedule to the upper left of this page. Due to technical difficulties the broadcast begins in the middle of the second quarter. We apologize for the issue.

HALFTIME: 15-15
VINEMONT (21-8): Josh Wynenandt 10, J.J. Smith 10, Tyler Creel 9, Tyler Speegle 6y, Cory Meyer 3, Chris Fuller 8, Jordan Marchman 2.

Round four of this season was played to nearly a full house. Both teams could not deliver quality shooting in the first half with Good Hope only three of 15 and Vinemont six of 19.
But the Raiders took advantage of 10 trips to the line in the second quarter and made seven that got them even after scoring just three points following the first eight minutes.
By halftime, some of the top weapons from both sides were not able to get into scoring column. Matt Blackmon and Brody Whitlock were shut down by the Vinemont interior defense with Eagle point guard Tyler Creel cut off on penetrating to the goal plus unable to get free and knock down some long range shots.
As the game moved into the second half, the tempo picked up with Vinemont using two baskets each from Josh Wynenandt and Chris Fuller in the paint and Good Hope getting four Raiders to break the scoring slump.
David Hulsey's Raiders went ahead 30-29 to begin the final stanza with Bobby Meyer's Eagles coming back and the lead swapped sides for the next couple of minutes.
With less than 4:00 remaining, Vinemont went up 41-34 when J.J. Smith scored twice, once from downtown and the Eagles got another field goal from near the basket by Wynenandt.
Good Hope stayed close and took advantage of Vinemont missing four of its last six visits to the line.
Whitlock made a free throw with less than two seconds to close the gap to 47-44. He intentionally missed the second but never touched the rim in which is a free throw violation.
The Eagles threw a pass near midcourt that was intercepted by Taylor Hollis whose 3-point try as time expired was off by a distance.
The win by the Eagles snapped a six-game Raider winning steak as the two split the four-game series. Vinemont moved to 11-1 on the home floor with its 10th consecutive victory in front of a very energized crowd.
