RAIDERS HOLD OFF THE BULLDOGS:

3A, Area 12 semifinal at Eagle Gymnasium - Vinemont
Hanceville  9  7  13  4  -  33
Good Hope 8  8  12  7  -  35

HALFTIME: Tied 16-16

GOOD HOPE (22-9): Scott Motes 15, Brody Whitlock 8, Tyler Rutledge 4, Matt Blackmon 3, Taylor Hollis 7.

HANCEVILLE (12-15): Trey Jordan 12, Broc Malcolm 2, K.J. Simmons 2, Geoffery Hall 5, Eric Clopton 3, Jeffery Leeth 3, D.J. :Leslie 2.

Hanceville once again found a way to slow down the pace and prevent the Raiders from getting the game into a situation in which they would score thanks to plays from transition.
Scott Motes came from nowhere to land four 3-pointers in the third period, but a turnover late in the quarter gave the Bulldogs the ball and K.J. Simmons knocked down a jumper that put Hanceville ahead 29-28 with one period remaining.
Motes' fifth trey in the second half put David Hulsey's Raiders ahead to stay as the game became a case of survival for the No. 2 seed in this tournament.
Good Hope missed two front ends of a one-and-one that would have iced the victory as Hanceville had a chance at tieing the game before regulation play ended.
But Daniel Wakefield's squad did not get off a shot attempt as Brody Whitlock intercepted a pass by Eric Clopton with Clopton looking to get the ball to Jordan who had four long rangers on the night.
He stole the pass near midcourt with two seconds left and dribbled out the time to keep the Raider winning streak alive at six games.
The five long distant shots from Motes was the best for the sophomore all season as he outscored Hanceville's Jordan in 3-point scoring by one more long ranger. Motes accounted for 15 of the 19 second half points for the Raiders who were able to breath a sigh of relief and start thinking about trying to repeat as the best in their respective area.

EAGLES GET CHALLENGED, BUT COME OUT
ON TOP:

3A, Area 12 semifinal at Eagle Gymnasium - Vinemont
J.B. Pennington  9  14  11  14  -  48
Vinemont 11 14  17  20  -  62

HALFTIME: Vinemont 25-23

VINEMONT (20-8): Josh Wynenandt 14, Jordan Marchman 12, Chris Fuller 10, Tyler Speegle 9, Brock Meherg 6, Tyler Creel 7, Cory Meyer 1, Cody Weaver 1, J.J. Smith 2.

J.B. PENNINGTON (6-17): Jake Pettus 14, Cody Rowell 10, Mitchell Doyle 10, Logan Cornelius 9, Caleb Canoles 1, Chad Haynes 4.

Fighting through a difficult start with only one field goal in the game's first 5:00 and down by the score of 9-2, the top seeded Eagles went on a 16-point to grab an 18-9 advantage early in the second quarter with reserve forward Jordan Marchman the spark plug for Bobby Meyer's team who had problems in executing.
But the visitors from Bountsville used the scoring from inside and outside and moved back within contention by the time the half ended and shot back in front at 31-27 early in the third stanza.
Vinemont was able to get the frontline into the offensive pattern as Josh Wynenandt and Chris Fuller produced four field goals that ignited a 17-11 run and the Eagles were up 42-34 by the time the third came to a close.
Wynenandt continued to deliver by getting passes in the post from his guard and had four baskets during the fourth in which Vinemont moved out to an 18-point lead with less than 4:00 remaining.
The Eagles seemed to play more relax once they were able to make the move of a solid attack in the paint and overcome a tough time scoring from the outside with the exception of three long rangers from Tyler Speegle.
Polint guard Tyler Creel was effected by the Pennington defense with one field goal through halftime and managed to get a couple of penetrating shots plus one free throw in the second half.
Satisfaction for the Eagles was their 20th win of the season and running their record on the home hardwood to 10-1.
Now comes another encounter with Good Hope as its a winner take all with home court advantage for the 3A Northwest Sub-Regional playoff next Friday.

Good Hope @ Vinemont Monday 7:00 p.m. (Area title game)
