RAIDERS CLAIM THE CULLMAN COUNTY CROWN:

60th Cullman County championship game
At Tom Drake Coliseum - Hanceville

West Point  8  9  11  7  -  35
Good Hope  20  3  14  11  -  48

HALFTIME: Good Hope 23-17

GOOD HOPE (19-9): Brody Whitlock 14, Tyler Rutledge 11, Kyle Aycock 8, Matt Blackmon 9, Trace Moody 4, Taylor Hollis 2.

WEST POINT (14-14): Mason Beck 11, Drew Butler 5, McKinley Jones 9, Caiden Bagwell 2, Cody Thompson 2, Brent Taylor 1, Kevin Aaron 2.

West Point coach Heith Yearwood was concerned about the emotion his team had spent the day before in upsetting the No. 1 seed Fairview Aggies to get to the championship game.

The momentum the Good Hope Raiders had in their semifinal victory against the No. 2 seed Vinemont Eagles continued with senior leadership getting the job done in the first period as Matt Blackmon scored and the Raiders raced to a 15-point lead late in the stanza.

West Point was able to fight back and narrowed the margin to 23-17 by halftime despite Caiden Bagwell only having one basket to show for through the first 16:00 of play.

Mason Beck tried to keep the Warriors close in the third as coach David Huilsey instructed his Raiders to kick it in the post to Tyler Rutldege and the 6'7" responded,

Seven points in the third by Rutledge allowed the Raiders to keep the advantage at arms length by a 37-28 score. In the fourth quarter, the Raiders produced all of their points from the charity stripe in 11 of 12 shooting with Whitlock going four of four, Moody two of two, Kyle Aycock two of two, Rutledge two of two and Blackmon one of two.

Good Hope is the king of boys basketball for the first time since 2004 and a tremendous pleasure under a rookie coach whose team has experienced highs and lows throughout the season.

Right now the Raiders are loving the current status and will get back to earth to prepare for playing in the 3A, Area 12 Tournament next weekend in Vinemont.
