First Half RAIDERS; Game PIRATES!

October 17, 2009
By Redd Rider of Good Hope High School

Good Hope looked like the Raiders of old in the first half tonight at James W Shabel Stadium, holding the Winfield Pirates to just one touchdown.  The offense was sparked by the return of Scott Motes at quarterback.  On the first play from scrimmage, the Raiders scored on a 47 yard touchdown pass from Motes to Jordan Harbinson.

Scott Motes was back to punt on the 40 yard line but the snap went over his head to the 30.  That miscue led to the only points that the Raiders gave up in the first half.

After a rousing halftime performance by both marching bands the football team came out to get things going in the second half.  The Raiders could not stop the run oriented offense of the Pirates in the second half.  As a result Winfield 35 - Good Hope 19.

Joshua Dozier and Zachary Taylor were the key runners for Winfield.

Several players were absolutely awesome tonight!  Jordan Harbinson caught two touchdown passes and Taylor Hollis caught one as well.  Scott Motes played well considering this was his first game back under center.  Motes also had a key defensive play knocking down a pass on a conversion attempt.

Jacob Mann had a great game playing hard on defense and also running the ball.  Christopher Davis, Joseph Brown, J.J. Williams, Isaac Shaddix, Austin Thornton all contributed greatly tonight.

Josh McClure was a horse tonight running several times and making some big play defensively.

Tonight was the last regular season home game for seniors: Jacob Mann, Joseph Brown, Josh McClure, Taylor Hollis, Jeremy Todd, Dallas Self, Zachary Hale.  Joseph McDonald was hurt and couldn't play.
